Recent price drop to $102.99 make this a very attractive deal, I RECOMMEND
I saddle hut and the main reason I do is for it’s portability and ease of set up. I had the chance to try out the Kalkal climbing sticks and have to say they worked well on the tree. The sticks are 30″ tall and have three steps on each stick.
Pros:
* The sticks weight in at three pounds each without the tree strap
* At 30″ in length, the steps are placed about 13″ apart. This makes for an easier climb up the sticks.
* One point strap attachment
* Straps are long enough to fit most of the trees you will climb
* The teeth on the sticks to bite into the tree
* The teeth on each step did hold my boots without slipping
Cons:
* Long! When folded the sticks are about 34″ long. I pack my sticks in strapped on the side of my pack. They stick up so high off my pack, that they catch on things when walking in brush.
* The connecting system used hold the sticks together can come loose unless an additional strap is used to hold them together.
* There is a lot of metal, and the sticks can be noisy. I wrapped the contact parts of the sticks with stealth tape to help.
* Each pair of steps are secured with three bolts, but there is a lot of play in the steps allowing the step to flex down when in use. Just the opposite when the steps are folded. The pair of steps can swing almost 3″ to either side. Another snag that can happen.
Overall, a decent set of sticks that work well but can give you some issues.
Exactly as advertised. These were easy to mount to the tree and were plenty sturdy enough for me.
So simple to hang on a tree! Simply wrap the strap around the tree, fasten it to the ladder, and viola! You have a climbing steps to your tree stand.
The only drawback is the tree needs to be fairly straight where you hang the steps. Otherwise they don’t hang very straight. They dig into and grip the tree nicely and feel like they will last for a long time, even in harsh weather.
